The Embedded Researcher at MPS 2016-2017
For the past several years WCER researchers have worked with staff of the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) district to develop their capacity to analyze and use data on students and schools.
MPS receives technical direction on research issues by means of an "embedded researcher" who splits time between WCER and the MPS Division of Research and Assessment, evaluating programs, initiatives and district improvement efforts.
Examples of this work include evaluations of MPS summer school programs, a single-gender classroom initiative at an MPS middle school and the MPS/Milwaukee Recreation Arts Partnership program.
Work also includes establishing a postsecondary tracking system for MPS graduates and an evaluation of year-round and extended-year schooling options in MPS.
