Recent educational policy reforms at the student level have focused on increasing academic achievement, inadvertently de-emphasizing more holistic notions of student development. Recent educational policy reforms aimed at teachers have emphasized recruiting more selective candidates, despite limited evidence that common metrics of candidate selectivity are associated with improved teacher outcomes. In this talk, Dr. Hirshberg will make the case that promoting well-being in schools, at both the student and the teacher/educator level, is good educational policy that can help address multiple challenges facing educational systems.
