Janet Kelly

Director of Communications

Janet leads strategic planning for internal and external communications at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research within UW-Madison's School of Education.

She directs a team that develops strategies and activities to enhance interdisciplinary education research, advance equity in education, increase the impact of WCER research and services, and better connect WCER to the university, city, state and nation.

For 25 years, Janet has worked to advance higher education in Madison, Wisconsin. Before joining WCER in 2014, she served for seven years as the communications director of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), UW-Madison's patent and licensing organization, and for 12 years at Madison College (MATC), the area's two-year community college.

Earlier in her career she worked in Chicago and Southern California in corporate communications for two Fortune 100 companies and a small specialty food business. Her roles included public relations, marketing, government relations, quality management and retail banking. 

She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studied for a year at Lancaster University in England and also completed Duke University's Executive Education Program for Manager Development.
